A Lands' End Survey Says 83% of Women Wear the Wrong Size Swim Suit

Recently Lands’ End sent me a measuring tape as part of a PR kit promoting their 2010 line of swim suits and their campaign to help women chose the right style and proper fit for their measurements and body style.  According to a Lands’ End survey, most women (83%) wear the wrong size bathing suit — resulting in saggy suits, muffin top, cleavage overflow and other wardrobe malfunctions — usually because they use their dress size to choose a suit.

The kit worked! I was intrigued to know if I was an Inverted Triangle, Star, Triangle, Circle or Rectangle, and I wondered which of the styles was best suited to my figure.

I consulted the online instructions (I learned how to measure my torso — shoulder to shoulder, between the legs – who knew?) at http://www.landsend.com/customerservice/size_charts/women/swimwear/index.html

I took my measurements, narrowed down my top choices at landsend.com, and then I called one of their Swim Fit Experts at 800-963-4816. You can also chat online with them by clicking Get Live Help on the Web site.

“Bonnie” was extremely helpful, though she did say I was a “tough one,” and she gave me the hard news that the style I liked best might not be ideal for me because my larger bust might make the suit too short in the body.  Bonnie recommended I consider the Carmela, which came in a longer torso sizing, but I had my heart set on the Tunic, so that’s what I ordered.  After all, I am on a diet and have just re-launched my post-baby workout program, and I am sure my bust size will be decreasing soon.

I got the suit, and it fit beautifully.  It is the first suit I have had that amply covers my bust but does not feel and look like a bullet-proof sports bra.  I’m happy to report that it also is just long enough in the body, and I have not had to tug at it to keep it down.  Besides the fit, I love the Blackberry color and the feel of the fabric.  It may go down in history as my favorite suit ever!

I’m still working on that diet and working out every other day, so who knows, maybe I will be ordering another suit soon, when I go from Circle to a Star!

FYI – Lands’ End offers several ways to shop for swimsuits: online at www.landsend.com by phone at 1-800-675-4853 or the 294 Lands’ End Shop at Sears locations.
